Police commissioner
Did anyone vote? I saw a couple of polling stations but I didn't see anyone actually going in.

Passed about 10 Polling Stations on my way in and out of the factory today. Didn't see a single voter.

Re: Police commissioner
I have voted. My postal station at All Souls church Heywood had around twenty at 10am. That was not official. I know many people have decried the value of this election but if anything is likely to have an effect on my life I like to have say in who does it.

Re: Police commissioner
Unfortunately, there were no Loony candidates otherwise I would have voted for them However, I did vote earlier in the week and cast my two votes for a party I have voted for before and one I haven't.
The whole thing is a sham in my opinion and about 75% of the population will agree with me... albeit silently.

Re: Police commissioner
When I voted at about 4pm only about 20 all day had voted at my polling station. I really could not be bothered voting for a second preference.

Total turnout in the election for the Greater Manchester police and crime commissioner was confirmed overnight as 13.5%, though the result has yet to be announced.

Re: Police commissioner
I voted, and the people in the polling station looked bored to tears and it looked liked very few people voted.

I think the whole effort cost the taxpayer £75M or something silly like that!

Wonder how many Police Officers could have put on the beat for that amount of money.

Re: Police commissioner
I see Rochdale leads the way with a magnificent 12% turnout.
A fantastic, silent but oh so eloquent response to the whole shoddy process.

Re: Police commissioner
The general idea seems to be that once the public have suffered the antics of police commissioners for a while, they will be more motivated to do something about them.

Terrible waste of money.
All they had to do was to give the current police authorities much more power and duties.

Tony Lloyd got in with 51.23% of the piss-poor turnout.

Re: Police commissioner
51.23% of a paltry 13.93% turnout equates to a trifling 7.14%
Predictably, Tony Lloyd’s 1st action was to make a “party political” comment.
What an abysmal travesty of justice ...

I agree MH, It was all a rather waste of time. Lloyd was right though in my opinion to highlight that it was only the government that wanted these daft PCCs. Millions wasted. Whether or not it will become a good thing only time will tell.

Prisoners' votes
Perhaps the turnout might have been higher if prisoners could have voted, although that may just have increased the numbers of spoilt votes.

Apolitical?
Yes, I heard the discussion this morning with the new PCC and the Chief Constable on Radio Manchester. Far from being non-political as the post stipulates, Tony Lloyd's very first comment was to criticise the Conservative government for the timing and organization of the election, and blaming them for the low turnout - so at least we know where we stand with him politically. Let's see if he can earn the huge salary and, no doubt generous, expenses of the role.
