One of our hardest working councillors despite his obvious disability problems. I often see him scurrying around in his blue-badged Jag with the personalised plates.
Being deemed medically unfit to do his job in Liverpool does not necessarily mean that he cannot do his council work.
He is a first class communicator, a very confident and thoughtful speaker, understands, complex issues, has good analytical skills, is an extremely good chair and together with Terry Linden, stands head and shoulders above 95% of the rest of the council.
In my view, he would be by far the best person to get Rochdale out of the sorry morass it is currently in.
Beware of politicians making mischief.
Love him or otherwise, Richard works hard and is one of Rochdale's most able politicians who is perhaps, Leader-in-Waiting?
He also fought and won... with a very convincing majority, his seat despite one of the filthiest election campaigns in living memory.

Totally agree with this, which I posted on another topic as a comment rejoinder. Seem to remember he was the country's youngest council leader in 1986. The assumptions people make about disability are often very ill-informed and badly clichéd. Good Luck to him and "keeping busy"
It reads like you could make a later-life career though in writing Eulogies Hinch !
Quietly disagree at least about Terry Linden, we've obviously had different experiences. I'm reminded that Allen Brett is back as well.
Mmm, 'Beware of politicians making mischief' indeed.

Which all makes the reports that he has been unceremoniously dumped from his Cabinet post all the more puzzling. Maybe he could pick up one of the Deputy Portfolio posts that the Labour Party is just about to create in one of its Jobs For The Comrades scams.

He is seen as being in the wrong camp of course.
Well, with him and Terry Linden out, I wonder what lacklustre treats we have in store? God knows they've enogh of that ilk to choose from.
