Towns worse than Rochdale?

The problem Rochdale appears to have is that the councillors are only changed by increments of 33% per yearly ballot. As Rochdale has a 60/40 percentage of Labour to Others it would take more than one set of balloting to remove their overall majority. A doubling of the councillors over the years has brought about an iniquitous situation whereby with careful manipulation power can be centralised towards one dominant grouping. The people of the borough are insufficiently concerned towards local politics to alter the demographics and thus 'power' of the ruling party and thus, in this case, Labour will continue to thrive well passed any practical use they have done or will do for the town.

Every now and again it is vital that 'power' blocs are swept away purely because familiarity always breeds contempt. Man isn't intelligent enough to realise and avoid his own arrogance.
