Tesco waste: its all our fault Empty Tesco waste: its all our fault

I read and note from main news bulletins that the friend of the shopper, Tesco’ has surveyed its customers and found that, wait for it, too much food is wasted BY THEM, £700 per household. Well apart from my usual question ‘who the hell is wasting our £650’, Matron owns up to about a quid a week, what do the benevolent owners of the philanthropic superstore intend to do.

Wait no longer dear reader Matron has just returned from said outlet with the news that the far reaching solution is at hand. Yes you’ve guessed it 20 pence on a tin of soup since yesterday. Now call me old fashioned but I would imagine the waste is ‘fresh’, and I use the word advisably, food which is responsible for the majority of the waste.

Now let’s think about this Mr or Mrs Tesco, the demographic of this great country of ours is a mixture of single persons, families with children and couples living in harmony with modern life and life styles. So you may ask why do Tesco sell only quantities suitable for more than 2 people of average consumption of the necessities of life?

Try and get a couple of carrots, who eats 2 Kilograms (4.4 lbs) of the things which have not apparently been gathered from old pre packed bags past the best by date.

Many of us have criticised the Bogof offers as wasteful for years, why buy 2 items of so called fresh food when you only want 1?

I know the theory of shopping ‘sell as much as you can and make as much money when doing so’ but surely it is taking the ‘free market’ philosophy a step too far when even the stores are dumping hundreds of tons of food a week instead of embarking on the shop keeper mentality of old of ‘here are my goods at a market price’, i.e. not cheap on the face of it, for believe me every ‘good deal’ from a supermarket is paid for by the undiscerning shopper.

Oh well got to go now to eat the left overs from last nights tea, tuna pasta with cauliflower with cheese topping, not a gram of waste in Matrons house.
