What Stephen in his evidence relates was common practice in many schools in the 1950's and 60's but which by the 1990's was illegal under the law of the times. I don't condone and he is right to pursue justice. It's a disgrace that 'vunerable' children, less able to 'rationalise', should still be treated in this way. I wish him all the best. The more people that come forward and hopefully the more some 'justice' will be given at the end of the day. Thanks for the report Hinch. Crying or Very sad

Much worse to come I fear before Rochdale can expunge the horrors perpetrated on some of its children over the years.

Yes, I remember heavy, wooden blackboard-rubbers being flung across the classroom by bad tempered teachers in the 50's and 60's but of course, Stephen is talking about Special Needs children in the 1990's.

If some of these kids thought things were bad at home, God help them when they arrived at Rochdale's answer to Dotheboys Hall. Wackford Squeers seems to have been a big pussy compared to some of this lot

The latest BBC main news reports and the fact it was given top billing certainly means that the news ferrets have got their teeth into things now. There's every possibility we might 'at last' be getting somewhere with the Cyril Smith Gang and their despicable 'hole in the wall' hideaway. I'm sure that many other forums are discussing the Westminster 'movement' on the child abuse issues from the last four decades and would expect lots more to come to the fore over the next two or three years. Perhaps we have begun to see what many of us knew about many, many years ago at last see the light of day - and that some of the 'great and good' are at last shown up for what they were and are. Well some forums could be discussing them. Some may be trying to deflect it as this is all far too 'negative'.

So does this mean lessons have finally been learnt?

Using 'being too negative' as a reason NOT to discuss is as bad as 'sweeping the truth under the carpet'. You cannot begin afresh if you hide the facts of history and colour the past in a rosy coloured hue. Accept the mistakes and LEARN' by them. Otherwise you will continue to make them again and again. How does that help??????????? Only a complete fool takes that road. Rolling Eyes

Spot on. Seem,there are many fools running around. As I said before I read a commnet on a socail media site that the abuse happened in Heywood not Rochdale, links were also posted to abuse cases in Oxford and any other place to suffer horrific child abuse at everytime the abuse in the Borough of Rochdale (sorry to be pandantic there) was mentioned . Its all rather disturbing,

Must be a special deal on rose tinted glasses in Rochdale. I just hope we do get justice for all the victims now.

Knowl View and Cambridge House were firmly in Rochdale County Borough and Cyril Smith was the MP of Rochdale constituency
