"They just don't care."  - Could be the 'raisin detre' or the solution to the Danczukian mysteries.

Local politics in the north of England does feature some pretty strange and dubious characters and stories. Maybe it does in the south, but that's another country, largely unknown to me.

The Danczuk saga is extraordinary though. It appears they have stumbled into the 'viral media' effect of the internet, found it in some way appealing, and played along with it. Now, their personalities, characters, actions and motives are blathered across the news on a regular basis.

Who could we compare with them? Bonnie and Clyde? Are their conflicted and complicated behaviors something to do with the internal struggles of the Labour party? With a Rochdale background? Entirely or partly fictional? Why would anyone find their 'selfies' of any interest? Karens' 'assets' are hardly any more remarkable than a million other selfie specialists.

Whether you find the Danczuk saga of interest or not, it is a puzzling and strange career of trivial tittle-tattle massively magnified, making media monsters of them both, and seems to have replaced 'politics as usual', there must be a back-story to it, what is the cause and effect? Is there any sense to be found? Is it a 'Rochdale mindset' or careless gormlessness writ large?

Does it say more about them or more about the public appetite for salacious gossip, or, more about media mechanisms. Does reality come into this at all?

The state of play at the moment is, enter Spanish waiter stage left, flying glass and swimming pool, Karen fearing for her life, smothered in bandages, and Simon comparing himself to Boris Johnson. Is it a storyline inspired by 'One foot in the Algarve'? What's it all about, and where does it leave the political landscape of Rochdale?

The political landscape of Rochdale, which features grooming gangs smouldering in the middle distance, Cyril Smith bouncing along the horizon wearing an asbestos waistcoat and smacking things, Rochdale council trying to escape in a flying saucer, and a mysterious black hole where the Rochdale M.P. used to be.

My visits to the actual place, Rochdale, have become ever less frequent, I was amazed at how such a bizarre and dysfunctional town could exist in broad daylight. As if someone had painted a picture of normality then made it into a jigsaw, mixed it all up and come up with a wierdness.

The Rochdale, and it's people, as presented in the media becomes curiouser and curiouser.

Rochdale appears to be a town lost in its past and befuddled by its future. Its sense of identity centred around its industriousness. Most of that has long gone - never to be replaced. It was its very industriousness that generated its wealth, albeit for the few, that then, as times dictated, flowed down to construct its Victorian and Edwardian values which were impressed upon its population who for the most part were happy to imbibe. With most of that removed the movers, its richer citizens, removed themselves for more conducive climes leaving virtually nothing but a festering wasteland behind them. Modern day movers have different priorities, the town not being one of them. And what is the result -? See for yourself. Government monies have been lacking in the quantity required to plaster over the cracks. MP's have been party centred and virtually impotent. Councillors, no longer the rich and important of the town, who at one time gave 'service' for 'free' Neutral Neutral live only to keep their power and privilege (and expenses) and have no real attachments other than most live there.
How do you change all that? You don't. You either move away to a better environment or you allow the town to evolve as it will. Civilisations are never for ever. Time will decide the outcome.Shocked Shocked Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Neutral

Your vivid description of Rochdale as a festering wasteland lost in it's past and befuddled by it's future, does go some way towards explaining the environmental and cultural background to the Danczuk saga.

Rochdale will have to learn to live with its cosmopolitan future and find for itself a 'niche' in the greater scheme of things. It will be a very hard tumultuous road. Where it goes - Nobody knows -??

Indeed. T'is in the lap of the God's. - However - Good governance would ensure that no area gets left behind in the future. It is a grave mistake to use the mantra of 'Darwinism' on this island in that it is too compact for dissent to be isolated from the rest. It would be necessary for a small change towards ''democratic socialism' now that our population has become far more cosmopolitan than ever before in order to avoid it fragmenting into a them and us mentality. It needs to be taken on board and dealt with if a new era of common wealth is to succeed. One only hopes they have the sense to do it. Otherwise - Oh dear. - - Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Wink Wink Wink

Is the era of the Danczuks now drawing to a close, at least as far as Rochdale is concerned? Rochdale seems to be like quicksand for politicians, the more they struggle, the faster they sink.

The party executives are without doubt not fit to be in charge of choosing the MP. Instead of going for cosmetic images they would do better to put it in the hands of a psychologist whose duty it would be to have a few sessions with the aspiring candidates to 'sort the wheat from the chaff' and to then take his recommendations as to suitability. It's a high powered job requiring unusual talents. If they keep leaving it in the hands of unqualified idiots you will get unqualified idiots regardless of how 'suitable' they might at first appear. Considering that the Labour (or any party for that matter) executive is made up of idiot wannabee's it goes without saying that my suggestion would never see the light of day. Therefore the choice of Rochdale's next Labour MP will be a mirror image of most that have gone before and will thus produce yet more malaise and deterioration for the borough. There's no hope for any material gains as long as the same old system remains with the same old tired idiots from the past. Wink Wink

Simon Danczuk makes an appearance in the newspaper with some cool hep cats. Just to prove that he is a swinging daddy-o and not a tired old idiot from the past.

Having watched the Labour party leadership debate, is there anyone who could do the job? A retired supermarket manager might be the best bet.

Yes. Possibly one or two within their ranks. They will not of course get the chance as the opposition, both right and left, is far too strong to allow for 'interlopers' to gain a foothold.
The upshot will be a fight to the death and a shredding of true Labour values (and that doesn't included either right or left dogmas) and a very much diminished Labour Party and effective opposition at the end of it all. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad It's going to leave the filed wide open for middle to right wing Tory abuse and will further diminish equalities and fairness throughout the whole of British society. We enter a dangerous phase of potential unrest. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad Sad Sad Sad

If so, that's partly because the Labour party had years of chances to organise itself into an effective government, but failed to do so. As for potential Labour leaders, the sort of people that could re-organise the Labour party in any meaningful way are not the sort of people that could organise a government. If Labour can manage to form a useful and functioning opposition they will be doing something useful.

True Labour has a very major failing -. It is too democratic. Such is its failing. One man one vote produces chaos if taken to its ultimate end. The Tories don't believe in full scale democracy. Democracy's usage is to provide one set of rules and one set of prospects. Having elected a leader in each unit the one man one vote system terminates - unlike Labour followers who want to follow it messianicly from voter to President whereupon you end up with the tail wagging the dog and - chaos.Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

The only people responsible for the site are TBA regardless of previous sales of the land or anything else. TBA (now lording it up with new investment in Rochdale) knew of the problems 100 years ago and were made aware of the public's knowledge at least 70 years ago of the toxic residues and malignant dust left over by their products. It should have been impossible to 'sell' on that responsibility to another party without 'bonds' in place to secure the cleaning of the lands in question. TBA are still responsible regardless of RMBC or Farrnel or Danczuk or the creation of the planet and it is in that direction the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune should be shed. As for an MP Danczuk has shown himself to be permanently flawed and unelectable by his constituents - unless of course he has a Trump as an opponent in which case a donkey should be able to succeed. Some long term problems are so embedded into the political landscape of Rochdale, they seem permanent. Perhaps politicians could stop promising to do something about them and failing to do so, it starts to wear thin after a while.

When people used to talk about these sort of problems, asbestos, child abuse etc, they seemed pleased to hear there would be an 'Inquiry', as if that was somehow an end to the problem. As we see, 'Inquiries' achieve nothing much.

And so the circle keeps on turning. A modern day society cannot afford too much rocking of the boat as it stands teetering on the edge of oblivion. All politicians of any worth are aware of just how tenuous they hold onto power, given recent events world-wide. Whilst the situation remains so uncomfortable nobody will take the risk of blowing the lid off. Wink

Mr. Danczuk is keeping the subject of M.P.s overclaming expenses high on the agenda, unlike some other MPs, who are hoping it will go away..

He's going nowhere, either now or come the next selection/election. He might as well try to dessicate the sponge whilst the going is good. Making hay whilst the sun shines is a sound policy where Labour MP's of the right are concerned.
