Indeed. But there's nothing comical or intend to be regarding the Grand Mufti and his cohorts. Did you know they where Nazi during the war I wonder? Providing aid and arms to Hitlers troops and murdering British citizens? How's that for such 'religious' leaders and their followers? They helped provide two regiments of Waffen SS who fought on the Eastern Front against the Russians. Small world isn't it. What do you suppose they are doing now -???

He was certainly more realistic.
There's nothing down for the Palestinians or the Arab nations without moving, as China has done, towards a capitalistic and democratic outlook and a lessening of religious dogmas and cultures.
When sufficient of their people realise that - then things will begin to change. For that we must continue to promote education wherever and whenever the opportunity arises. That's why I have no problem with the under 18yr old migrants coming our way. The more they see of our way of life the better they will understand and want the same for themselves and their own people.

Re: The Danczukian mysteries
A nice thought, but doesn't seem to work that way. People are a mixed bunch, attitudes vary, but it seems Islam has to find it's own answers. Hoping everyone will take to and adopt european values doesn't seem to be a practical solution.
However, although it's not politically correct to characterise people from different countries, the few genuine Syrians I have come across do seem to have a relatively pragmatic open minded attitude, perhaps due to the deep and complicated history of their culture.

Re: The Danczukian mysteries
Just as mixed (races) schooling helps promote better understanding so will a mixed society of aspiring adults. It's never the full answer but it is better than doing nothing and wringing one's hands in frustration. There will always be the 'throw-backs'. Some people you will never help to use the gifts they were born with - that's life. Syria's history, whilst not perfect, was certainly much better before Hafez Assad took over in the late 60's and became a dictator in the process. Even the French were better than him. His son is just an extension of the terror his father wrought. Modern day Syrian's have grown up not trusting the Arab leaders and their draconian archaic laws. But until the international (UN) get's its act together and starts insisting on a settlement for the area nothing will change. That's what the UN was set up for. It fails miserably on a regular basis. Which considering the big bungs they are getting to operate it is nothing short of criminal.

Re: The Danczukian mysteries
There are plenty of places and countries around the world with mixed societies, mixtures of races, nationalities, religions etc. Doesn't particularly seem to equate with progress and harmony.
It's difficult to distinguish between government and gangsterism in places like Syria. It might be useful if the UN was geared up to dismantle such criminality.

Re: The Danczukian mysteries
Any government that rules by terror and massacres its own people are 'gangsters' - we call them 'criminal governments'. There are still a number around the world that don't seem to 'know' the difference between democracy and dictatorship (in whatever political guise it is made).
The UN was 'supposed' to be a 'forum' for discussion and agreement and the laying down of International Laws which every country could adhere to (without removing the sovereignty of those countries). NATO was set up as a defence force but with a offensive capacity should the need arise and to be used in conjunction with UN troops if things got out of hand. It all stopped short of a UN Army which it was seen might be a step too far if the control of that Army became usurped by popular figures. (i.e. become a danger to the world as a whole).
A dismantling force would be of a similar ilk. The Security Council is supposed to form 'dismantling forces' but unfortunately with the use of a 'veto' by a selected few it cannot operate as it was meant to. Time to remove the 'veto's' and put it to the test.
Which doesn't mean to say that any nation could not extract itself at any time and ignore the UN all together. Not as easy at it at first seems. A bit like UKIP and the present Labour Party if you ask me.

Re: The Danczukian mysteries
Well as usual people are more interested in tittle-tattle than in the good that can be got from people who have 'viable exposure'. If others think that human beings are transformed into super-beings because they attain a position of prominence then they are obviously naive themselves and thus not really qualified to opinion-ate on the subject. Most stems from envy as opposed to any real justifiable moralistic stand. The end results are what count. How effective has been their tenure? What good came from that tenure? On balance was it better with or without their tenure etc etc etc?
Of course the answer will always be - I could have done better. Or - a dead donkey would have had more effect. Which is exactly what I expect from most who are all mouth and trousers - as the majority always are. On balance, at the time, was there a better more qualified more dynamic possibly more effective alternative to put in the job - or are they all just kidding themselves.
I suspect the latter and doubt I would be far wrong.

A lifesize statue of a dead, or apparently standing-asleep donkey, featuring a great amount of mouth and trousers, cast in bronze and on a plinth, a challenging subject for any sculptor, would make an excellent memorial representing the endeavours and achievements of a political personality or grouping. Which one is a matter for democratic choice.

Re: The Danczukian mysteries
The vast majority of so called 'councillors' are ego swilling wannabe-bees. They soon learn how to play the field and how not to get caught with their peckers in the till. Most are liars - it's obligatory. Most are only there for the kudos - it's obligatory. Most are not worth their salt regardless of who they are or of what gender. Therefore one can only despair for the future and know the past for what it has been. Man - huh. Don't you just love him.

Humanity is problematic. I do like to see a nice landscape with lovely trees and birds flying by, or a seascape with lovely colours in the sea and sky. Human stuff tends to spoil the picture.

Re: The Danczukian mysteries
Humanity is only a blip on the planets life, evolution and guaranteed demise. Personally I don't give it another 5,000 years at best (always and providing it doesn't destroy itself first). After that the planet itself will remove most of human kind by way of climate change and tectonic plate movement.
It will be incumbent upon man to 'find' another planet to despoil if it wishes to thrive for longer. Such will be possible by then and the StarTrek scenario is not as far fetched as it may have at first seemed. Wherever man goes he will carry his baggage of 'death' with him. It therefore follows that he will not be welcomed by other 'so called' civilisations who are made in a different mould. He will be destined to be a 'scourge' on the universe for as long as his ingenuity enables him to survive.

Karen - see my previous post. On the coat-tails of politics. When one door closes another can be made to open - if you have the mind to not care what others think. There are no surprises here. Just another talentless bimbo flashing her boobs and making hay whilst the sun hides the wrinkles.

There's no business like show business.
Meanwhile, on the Simonside, "these claims are systematic"

Should that be, "these claims are symptomatic"?

Re: The Danczukian mysteries
Both I shouldn't wonder. Whatever happens with Rochdale's MP I can without doubt assure all Rochdale voters that come the next time around, 2020 unless he resigns in the meantime, they will get just what they deserve - unless - they change tack and decide to join the winning team for the purposes of changing the town's future. A change for the 'future' will ultimately benefit all. Time to drop the 'what's in it for me' attitudes and look towards being in the front row instead of at the back hurling futile abuse. Power is what you need - the trimming out of the 'fat-cats' can come only when you are in front and holding the reins.

This woman is a main-chancer and not worthy of discussion. So why spend a further penny on the blatant tart.

With this talk of spending a penny on a blatant tart and disciplining the selfie queen, we might find the forum going to the top of the search engines.

We should be so lucky. There are too many other outlets for people to vent their spleens on for this forum to survive. Something extraordinary would have to happen first - like - facebook and twitter collapsing.

Re: The Danczukian mysteries
It's an ever-changing world. Some like to keep up with the Danzukian mysteries in the 'news'. Some of the stories are quite bizzare, others quite serious. Mr. Danczuk probably knows more about Bangladesh than most of us, and it does seem to be a troubled country at the moment. He had this to say about it.

The man speaks common-sense on this one. However a Brexit won't stop such forms of immigration. As a Commonwealth Country Bangladesh citizens have always had the right to come to this country as the vast majority have a British Commonwealth Passport, especially if they have family here already under the former agreements between the two countries. Vigilance is always needed. It's has never been any different - until we joined the Common Market and hence the EU with its open door policy.

Mr Danczuk seems to have quite a connection with the situation in Bangladesh, and how it effects things here, all sounds very unpleasant and rather complicated, as these things usually are.
