I am up for a pre-Xmas meal at the end of Nov/early Dec and would prefer:- (Multi choice)
Christmas night out
It has been suggested that we organise a night out before Christmas. All forum-members and spouses welcome.
We MAY have to ask for a small deposit in order to book tables.
Some posters can't do curry so we are anticipating a traditional Xmas meal or a normal choice off the menu. A couple of venues have been suggested but we are willing to accept others. The White House, The Baum and The Crimble have all been suggested so far.
We are looking for something that is mid-price range. We might wish to try to organise transport between us? We might also want to think of doing a 'Secret Santa' when we get names? (I'm sure we can organise a 'surprise' appearance from the fat chap in the red suit!)
Please fill in the poll which is a multi-choice one and we will try to go for the 'best fit'. Admin can't do Friday so that is why it is not on the list of choices. Over to you folks.

Yes, and it's central as well. Have only been there for lunch but the food is great as are the wines and beer. I think that their CAMRA award this year was so very well deserved.
The owners really work hard at it but the results pay off.
I love to find an excuse to pop in for lunch if I am on a town-centre assignment and file my reports via the free Wi-Fi as I eat and sup.
Service also very good and the guy who does the door security is so friendly. One of Rochdale's top venues... not that I want to be too pushy but it would be my choice and their prices are very reasonable.
So many pubs are forced to close; not just because of competition from supermarkets but because the manager or landlord seems to be just going through the motions and doesn't appear to give a toss whether you go back there or not.
I was in a pub in Castleton a few weeks ago. Great beer but the poor girl at the bar, working on her own, had no idea how to change a barrel when the beer ran out. The manager was, of course, elsewhere. Pubs like that don't deserve to do well.

I'm happy enough with The Baum, never been before but only heard good reports about it.

I've not been to The Crimble for years so can't comment, though reports are good. I can vouch for both The White House and The Baum. Excellent food and wine, and a choice of excellent beers.

I've got the problem with work that I don't know where in the world I am one week to the next. But if I'm here I'm interested.

Xmas meal
Myself and Karen are up for a xmas meal, anywhere ok with us as long as it's not Nutters, The Crimble has gone a bit naff of late, Baum sounds great or the Healey Hotel which is the sister pub to the Baum.
As long as we have got a few Weeks notice and can fit it in around gigs.
As you all understand I hope, it's the busy time of the Year for us.
And just to finish can we pass on a certain swing singer who has done a few of the get togethers on the old forum.

I'd vote for no 'entertainment'.

Re: Christmas night out
There will be no superannuated fedora-wearing swing-singers and the only entertainment will consist of Rochdale Talk posters doing their funny walk at the end of a booze-fuelled evening.
Of course, I cannot guarantee that Jim Bowen might not make an impromptu appearance or that there will not be one of our female members resorting to doing her usual tricks with the ping-pong balls in the style of 'Phoenix Nights'.
A lady from Norden who has asked to remain anonymous, may be persuaded to do her usual bull-riding spot in aid of her favourite charity but apart from that, it will be an evening of good food, much vino collapso, witty and gay repartee and the soft babble of gentle laughter. (Apart from the broad, tasteless guffawing of She With The Extensive Balcony Who Must Remain Nameless.)
Be assured, it will all be done in the best possible taste.
I have just heard that all the Table 12 spots have been sold out.
