Re-development of the Town Hall
http://www.rochdaleonline.co.uk/news-features/2/news-headlines/91482/plans-for-redevelopment-of-rochdale-town-hall-set-to-be-considered
Ideas for the re-development of Rochdale Town Hall are to be considered. Experts agree that it is an ideal building to grow mushrooms in, and properly managed could be a reliable and sustainable source of food for the town. Anyone who has any particularly tasty recipies for mushroom based dishes is invited to share them.

Discussion on plans for the town hall are developing quickly, with much agreement.

The council leader strongly supports the idea of a top-class restaurant to be included. It is understood the reference to top-class is not intended to be snobbish, or to spark class war or class envy, simply to use the freshest of ingredients, expertly cooked.

Re: Re-development of the Town Hall
The last I heard the TIC was there. But as I recall was a small area. Tourism Centre's are vital if the town is utilise it FULL potential and should be FULLY equipped with all the latest booking gadgets and high-tec connections. IF this is not the case then that should be a high priority. Attached and commercialised should be a Heritage Centre incorporating all name heritage for the visitors and locals - not forgetting the towns own heritage etc. A fully functional centre CAN be profitable and not just a drain on resources if done properly.
I like the idea for weddings, conference's and high class restaurant but there is no reason why a public tea-rooms should not be incorporated throughout the daytime for Rochdale residents and visitors. Especially visitors who would delight in the medieval surroundings if incorporated tastefully within a more immediate modern surrounding. It needs vision. Does Rochdale have any?

Re: Re-development of the Town Hall
Vision, looking to the future and making long term plans, has been noticeably missing in society and politics for a long time now. Government works in a short term 'fire fighting' way. Local government usually delegates 'vision' to firms of consultants, asking them to come up with ideas and designs.
Deep fried mushrooms are very tasty.

Re: Re-development of the Town Hall
I would have thought the TIC should be in the nice new council building and thus save costs. It is close to the transport hub and the lovely (smelly?) opened up river.
RMBC are not very good at joined-up thinking, especially in times of great cost cutting.
I wonder what the people seriously effected by the cuts to social services think about this?
Yes it is a great idea, but can we really afford it at the present time.

Re: Re-development of the Town Hall
Unfortunately the Town Hall, as with all buildings, is required to be used as fully as possible should you wish it to remain in good condition. Disuse is not recommended. Therefore regardless of 'other' buildings -, which I consider would be less essential to the town's architectural glory, an effort to be 'constructive' and 'find' a 'profitable' use for the Town Hall takes precedence over alternatives. I'm sure Rochdale is not that far 'gone' as to be unable to solve this one.

Somehow, the town hall always makes me think of mushrooms, soon as I enter the building.

That's only because of all the 'bullshit' that has been spouted out in there over the aeons. Keep the politicians out of the premises and it will soon become sweet and 'habitable' again.
