Commenting on radio 4 'The world at One' today, about the verdict on Stuart Hall, whom she used to work with, Linda McDougall said "If you look on twitter now, I think this is going to be a real problem, people are tremendously hostile to the old, and Stuart hall will be regarded with even more horror because he is now so old. I will probably be regarded with horror because I'm so old and speaking out."

Apparently being old, in itself, is regarded with some distaste and even horror. Does this explain a few things about the way older people are treated nowadays?

Looks like all this free love of the 60s and 70s and the freedom of self expression on wards from the 80s was just an excuse for the perverts to use it as a cover.

Most of them caught or allegations made turn out to be famous people so far.

Indeed Hinch. However the age differences were much closer together than most of what we speak here.
Most of the male members of the bands in my days were between 15 and 18 - as were most of their 'followers'. Such liasons were not 'viewed' as 'too unhealthy' as things went. The girls never tended to be more than two or three years younger than the boys. Not quite the same thing at all really. A few of us - i.e. the managers and agents were in our twenties and we did sometimes 'cash in' on what was available. But we did have enough sense not to go 'baby snatching' as it was known.

Of course those that brag about their conquest and they did know about the baby snatching that went on. Also they knew of the people who did this they had a duty to report it to the police.

Sometimes your comments TP2 are naive in the extreme. Did you live in the same world as the rest of us. Weren't you a politician at some time or other. Do the two things go together I ask myself?

Do you see the point Atlas. Some people brag about the times and their conquest. Also the times were not a proud period looking at the number of women and men who are now coming out how they were assaulted at this period. All the perverts who used the period as cover to carry out their perverted ways.

Also the number of people who may have known it happened but failed to do anything. As long as they were making money they would not rock the boat. We all know it has happened in one way or other for years. The most famous people at this time in the show business world seemed to have been protected because they were famous. Nothing naive about it. Seems the authorities and other people who managed the show business world at the time knew it went on and did nothing. Ruining the lives of a lot of young people at the time and going through this most of their lives until being brave enough now to speak out.

Same with the church and in some cases politicians. Take the Cyril Smith fiasco for one.

But that doesn't change the realities of the day does it! We all have to 'live' in our own times and all that such brings us. That it was a disgrace and should never have happened changes nothing, What changes society and ourselves is evolution - e.g. the good old days as an expression only lends itself to that which was 'good' and always excludes that which was evil as a matter of course. We would all wish we could return and right the wrongs as we now discover them, that which was done to us as a matter of course, but we can't - because that's not real life. We move on and hope that the future will bring better things always aware that these times, today and tomorrow, will hide its own horrors which will surface in another 40 years from now. Welcome to reality. And may 'your' God go with you.
