Rochdale re-occurs in the news, this time with the tale of the throttling thug. His ladyfreind told the court he is a good lad really and only throttles her occasionally.

Have the Danczuks established the trend for a healthy amount of interpersonal violence within a normal Rochdale style relationship?

Obviously badly brought up or psychologically infirm. Either way somebody needs to have a talk with him either with a baseball bat or a pair of silk gloves. Once - OK benefit of the doubt. Twice - taking the piss. I wouldn't give two chances on the same vien. But then that's just me -

It seems a dubious legal idea to take into account the 'forgiveness of the victim' in a case of violent assault. What if, quite likely, the victim is intimidated and only says she forgives the violence for fear of worse?

On a point of 'law'. Since when does a judge take on board a 'victim forgiveness' plea? If the man is clearly guilty of 'assault' then the penalty for 'assault' should be mandatory. The 'length of the sentence can be altered due to extenuating circumstances but should be based upon the plaintiffs actions which brought about the assault i.e. in mitigation. Failing that the law should take it's course. We all know the mind-sets of victims of domestic violence - can't live him can't live without him - and as such should never be entertained.
