Complain to the Police. They are a ROAD SAFETY ISSUE. You may find that such 'alternative routes' are more efficient.

Re: Anti-social Rochdale
You are right, Mojo, I'm only vaguely familiar with the area where chickens run free, or as you more accurately describe it, where
"meandering, scratting livestock is cooped in a neighbourhood that has no allotments, which has had received several phases of very expensive Regeneration "- " barely a chicken run's distance from Rochdale town centre that is having many more Millions of public money spent on it."
From the comments, it seems these meandering chickens represent the tip of an iceberg of difficult issues.

Plus the 'phases of very expensive regeneration' happen every few years on the same properties!

Not that all the regeneration phases have done much to enhance the area which is continuously litter strewn, there has got to be some local pride in the area to make a difference.....

Re: Anti-social Rochdale
Its all about power; who controls it and how it's exercised. It partly explains why two areas with similar housing types built around the same time get treated very differently.
Some are allowed to crumble and decay, others are able to attract funding almost at the drop of a hat.
The events in Glodwick a few years ago showed what can happen when resources are dished out inequitably.
It is good that ward councillors can use their clout and skills to ensure that their patch takes advantage of regeneration money and the other sources of funding but the council as a whole needs to look at the bigger picture.
Belfield badly needs a makeover as does Brotherhood and one or two other areas bordering on sink-estate status.

I remember Belfield having a makeover about 15 or so years ago. The one being done at the moment is Waithlands (Tintown)

I drove around Belfield in the week. Phew! There are some bits of it where I'd be loath to park my car or venture into after dark.

Re: Anti-social Rochdale
When I was first given a council property in Rochdale we had to be interviewed by a housing officer and sign an agreement that we would keep the property in good order and maintain the gardens as well as not causing (or have visitors causing) a nuisance to neighbours.
I'm wondering if that still happens or if (as it seems) those assurances are not now asked for.

No evidence of it at the property I visited Chazza.

Maybe thats why the estates end up as dumping grounds?
I know families have been rehoused on my estate after being evicted from Greave for anti-social behaviour, only to go on and cause more trouble here!
I dont know why they are given another property after that.

Re: Anti-social Rochdale
Drove down Entwistle Road this morning. A flock of 20 or thirty hens pecking away merrily to the left and a smaller flock of half a dozen on the right.
A veritable rural idyll. Perhaps re-roofing the houses in thatch and drafting in a few straw-sucking yokels in smocks could really lift the area?
I bet Atlas is regretting he left in order to escape to the Welsh countryside.

Wardleworth’s “Henomenon”
The hens that myself and another ‘old goat’ saw adding bits of fertilizer to the pavements there later today were the meat production type, rather than the egg-laying hen variety.
I’ve been told that a poo egg is a term of endearment used for an old friend, or a stout shaped person. Hope this isn’t a wind up!

Perhaps these poultry specialists might also consider raising grouse and pheasant? This can bring in a lot of money and encourage tourism as well as providing jobs for game-keepers, beaters and loaders.

Aseel "fighting" is of course illegal in the UK.
I think it has also now been banned in India
These expensive birds would definitely not be let out to wander round the streets

What next? They'll be outlawing dog-fighting, bear-baiting and fox-hunting before we know it.
This is a blatant racist attack on our Anglo-Saxon/Indo-Pak heritage.
Disgraceful!

A LOT of money and re-regeneration continues to go into the area / Wardleworth.
The new-build, affordable homes already on Halifax Road, near to the Entwisle Road junction, are already available with low deposits and a big range of buying aids.
There's more! Another £1.2 million for houses in the area to revitalise ....
Work starts on new affordable homes
http://www.rochdaleonline.co.uk/news-features/2/news-headlines/80367/work-starts-on-new-affordable-homes
If a lack of residents' pride continues to add to the debris and apathy of the area, it feels like a long lost cause for sustained revitalisation. Should this even be a domestic residential zone anymore, given it's close proximity to all the 'new' town centre facilities ?

Re: Anti-social Rochdale
Ah well, I think they call it 'KARMA'! Having made enquiries as to the the legality of allowing chickens to 'strut their stuff' all around the Entwistle Road/Gower Street area, I was told by the Council that there is no legislation in place to prevent the keeping of hens.
So......I wake up this morning to hear the distinct sound of 'clucking' and find that our one Asian neighbour (who had been ordered to clear his garden of mounds of rubbish) has done just that and replaced the filth with? ......you've guessed it!

You'll wake up to the rural sounds of the cock-crow and breath in the heady rustic vapours of chicken poo.
Over here, I go to sleep to the sound of Mr Owl out a-hunting and wake up to the song of the blackbird.
There is an allotment at the end of the street where he keeps chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys but we rarely hear them.
I have a feeling that your problems will get worse before they get better. They obviously have no consideration for their neighbours.
They don't have this problem in Norden and Bamford I bet.

Re: Anti-social Rochdale
How right you are Hinch! and I wonder, would there be such apathy within the Council if 'Mr Jones from Bamford' had reported this problem? methinks not.
I have been told there is 'no legislation' in place to deal with stray chickens by RMBC, well then, why can't they create a bylaw that would do just that? not just sit there telling folks 'there is nothing they can do'!
The house in question (although once a garden) is now a concrete area still housing some remains of the debri he once held there (an old red sofa and wood) ....hardly fits in with the ideology of 'free range' to me. Secondly, our row of properties sits between 2 fishing lodges (one not in use)....the rats are going to have a field day!!
A neighbour reported this to RMBC this morning and was told "there is nothing we can do but, should a cockerel find it's way there then, that could create a noise nuisance" and promptly gave him the phone number of RMBC's Dog Warden/Animal Welfare Officer should that happen. RMBC added that "many people have started to keep chickens for eggs because of the economic climate at the moment".
My neighbour wonders what the legislation is on keeping pigs?!!
Oh and, in the midst of all this....I have a blackbird nesting in my tree in the garden so.....perhaps I should count my blessings!

Never, it's idyllic living here in Norden. We all laugh and smile at each other and no one ever falls out.

Re: Anti-social Rochdale
We now have a Cockerel and some more chickens.....
I don't believe that for one moment, these chickens are being kept for their eggs. In the case of this particular owner, he only has to stride 3 yards out of his back door to our local newsagents shop where a halal butcher operates. Yes, the owner can slaughter chickens for his own use as long as they don't enter the 'food chain'.....really?

Well, it will give the urban foxes something to aspire to.
In the interim, could I suggest a large, ginger tomcat?
